Short but sweet, our 26th Astrocast comes from now NY-based producer lotide, who will be joining us along with Jacob 2-2, Mess Kid, Falty DL and Dave Q for our second big Astro Nautico show here in Brooklyn at Free Candy on August 3rd. Making waves with Lord RAJA and the Guns of Kingston crew, you can expect to hear (and see) lots of exciting output from this kid in the near future. Marked by grimy, textural beats and spiritual static, the mix itself is a theme song for 2012 pushing onwards into dark future space. The download link is attached at the bottom of the interview.

1. So first question is prolly the most important for us: as a 20-year-old young gun who constantly has his hands in a number of different projects all at once on top of making original productions/mixes/videos, why New York and why now?
When I started producing more material I figured it would be nice to go to a city where I could meet good people and play shows and get involved, etc. I tried Seattle, but that wasn’t it. I wasn’t interested in going to LA because I wanted to be a part of something in its early stages, as opposed to just taking a number and having a seat. New York has really kind of seduced me in the past few months. It’s clear that something good is brewing in Brooklyn, it just hasn’t started to coagulate until now.
2. You’ve already got a split remix EP out on Bandcamp with Kouta (SF), a 45-min ambient mix for Vanguard Music (Italy) and a 20-min radio mix for Wavy Graves (Glasgow), and you remixed D33J (Wedidit) and a Slovenian techno girl Nightwave plus you have your first record forthcoming on Svetlana’s new subsidiary label Woetone. What the fuck?
I know. It’s what the fuck in a funny way. I’m not as busy as that sounds. Great thing about the internet is I can meet people in different cities and countries who like what I do, and want me to do it for or with them. Trying to get as much out of that as I can.
3. A machete or Excaliber?
A machete. Anything you can have in one hand you can also have in the other.
4. Is Guns of Kingston armed? What are your plans for joining RAJA’s elite task force?
The bossman at Svetlana Industries put me in touch with RAJA early on, he did the video for my upcoming record and we sent stuff back and forth for a while. I noticed GOK had kind of frozen up for a while and RAJA said getting things going again was just a matter of re-doing the site and actually maintaining it. I’m working on it now, we’ll be putting together a nice little hype machine so we can make some good shit happen soon.
5. Can you link us to your favorite original video you’ve made and tell us why it’s your favorite?
I did this video for Shlohmo a while back and it never got out, he and I figured it wasn’t quite finished and I eventually just moved on to something else. Almost no one has seen it, it’s old, but I’m curious to see if people would’ve liked it. I’m into it because it was fun to make. Here we go: https://vimeo.com/27760254
