The turnout to Astro Nautico’s first bash at FreeCandy on July 6 was staggering. An eclectic crowd of over 300 energetic beautiful party people flooded the Prospect Heights space, a former car parking garage filled with street art, neon UV paint, a full-service bar and a 20’ x 12’ movie-theater-sized projection area.

We are well aware that it’s one thing to throw one party, but another thing entirely to build a series of parties — let alone to inject the whole NY scene with a new vibrations and new vibrancy. But that is exactly our goal: to fire it up!

So on August 3 we’re pushing to bring up from the woodworks all the vim and vigor of a city defined by its creative types. This particular night is dedicated exclusively to NYC-based artists and to the city that sustains them.

The deejay-producer performers run the generational gamut, from a 20-year-old Seattle transplant who has only been on the ground for less than a month to the O.G. don of Twisup/DubWar/Percussion Lab, a man who it’s safe to say brought the sound of Dubstep to America before it blew, and who has full-on dedicated himself to the music culture of our city for over a decade. As always, you don’t have to be a music head in order to enjoy what we’re planning. Thunderous bass weight and gigantic raw visuals form a potent electronic cocktail capable of offering just about anyone a uniquely invigorating party experience.
