Good Evenings

I’m not really sure how I’m only hearing about Evenings now, when their incredible North Dorm EP was released on bandcamp over a year ago. In any case, definitely better late than never. What brought me to their attention was the recent release of their full length album Lately, which is also packed with lush, textural gems. If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and listen to this stuff now.

howse to Release ‘Trakz’ on AN Recordings

Time to spill the beans! We’re proud to announce that B-more producer howse‘s new ’Trakz EP’ will be released for free download here on AstroNautico.com on August 28th.

Those unacquainted with howse’s sound should immediately listen to his masterful new mixtape for Rhythm Incursions, which altogether plays like a howse record: weightless, melancholic, deranged and soulful vocals, crackling texture-scapes and vintage atmospheric synth pads meet with quantized nimble rhythmic experimentation and powerful, deep sub rumblings.

A seamless tour through practically every genre of contemporary electronic music worth listening to, this mix ends up running at slower tempos than howse’s characteristic experimental footwerk tracks, which should give you an idea of his range and control of sound.

Also available free online to stream/download are howse’s two previous self-released EPs on his bandcamp page.

To tide y’all over until we reveal tracklisting & artwork for ‘Trakz EP’ next week, we’re sharing this new howse rewerk of Alicia Keys’ seminal ‘I’m Ready,’ exclusively available for free download here. Plus, he’s got an Astrocast on the way. Stay tuned!!

Featureless Ghost - New Moods

YAAAAAssssssss!!! Heard about this awesome guy/girl synth-pop duo a little while back from Ian @ Friendship Bracelet. Was lucky enough to catch them play live in Brooklyn early this summer with fellow Atlien C. Powers, and copped this CD from Matt.. Been bumping it errday since then! Hard ass drums and synth lines matched by dubbed out vocals reminiscent of David Byrne’s best moments.

The album just dropped on Atlanta label Double Phantom Digital and is available for free download on the group’s bandcamp page!

Sunrise Blend

Here is some light morning funk 4 dat azz. Newly created French label JUICY just sent us over this compilation beat tape, with a bunch of talented sampled-based producers flipping some serious 80s jams. Artists include Haz Solo, Ohbliv, Evil Needle and more.

FoF Present: Pop Massacre Vol. 2

Friends Of Friends have been straight killing the game lately. They were just recently named Resident Advisor’s label of the month and have dropping dope release after dope release over the past year or so.

Here we have the second offering of their “Pop Massacre” series, which basically showcases both FoF artists and friends of Friends of Friends (lol) by asking them to remix a song from any era of popular culture.

I’ll admit that some of the songs work better than others, but when you have a line-up that includes Devonwho, Lapalux, eLan, Salva, Shlohmo & more, it’s always worth checking out.

ASTROCAST12: Comanche

YUP - it’s that time of the month: the newest ASTROCAST (the 12th edition for those of y’all counting) is here and coming to you l-l-l-live & direct from Minneapolis, MN, home of Comanche.

Comanche is a mysterious group of fellas. For some of you the name may be completely new but listening to the mix they sent over for us, which is full of their own unreleased and incredible productions, it’s clear these two are deep into electronic music and it’s origins.

They’re from Minneapolis, which makes sense - their productions definitely borrow from the Prince “purple sound,” heavy on drum machines & synthesizers. However, throughout this mix they also touch on low-end explorations, smooth 80s / boogie /sophist-a-funk remixes and even start it off with a massive assault of distorted synths and noise, similar to some of the french-electro that Ed Banger puts out. And that’s not even touching on the tracks included from other artists (Lone, Onra, The Avalanches) from whom they likely draw influence.

Get ready for this one; if you were sleeping on Comanche, now you know.

Melted Magic

SUP WORLD

Proud to present Melted Magic, my debut EP as Obey City and Astro Nautico’s fifth official release. It’s been a while in the making and I’m happy to see it finally come to fruition at the same time as our website; like some wild psychedelic fraternal twins or something.

You can download this sucker for FREE over @ our bandcamp & then peep the “Releases” tab at the top of your browser to get a little write-up, plus links to download some of our previous releases.

Also, get lifted to the wild imagery of the official video for track 3, “Snickers,” courtesy of Chester Anand (a.k.a. badman Infinitirock) & Astro’s own fatdude, Paolo XZ.

I believe this is the start of something special, so expect much more music from all of us very soon.

We here at Astro Nautico are endlessly grateful for your support.

Electric Sea Spider

Electric Sea Spider.

Sounds like the kind of thing you wouldn’t want to encounter in real life. Real nasty critter; probably poison you while simultaneously drowning you in high-voltage water. That’s like 6 million ways to die son.

I’d personally rather drown in electrified beats then water any day & the homie Jim from Melbourne (who uses this creature as his alias) makes that option quite readily available.

Start by perusing his soundcloud, full of textured broken-beat studies in sampling, and if that hasn’t satisfied your hunger, grab his beat-tapes over at bandcamp HERE & HERE 4 next to nothing.
